Answering the Myths

I won’t get influenza*
Between 10-20% of New Zealanders (380,000-760,000 people) are infected with influenza each year.

The vaccine is not effective**
Influenza vaccine is effective. It’s efficacy is measured by preventing people getting sicker and ending up hospitalised with secondary complications from the flu illness.

Influenza vaccine gives you influenza***
Influenza vaccine cannot cause influenza as it contains NO live viruses.
